Anthropic announced on October 18 that it would commit 5% of its shares to a new Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval. The board could add two percentage points for each 50% increase in the company's value above a set baseline.

The fund would be a limited liability company wholly owned by Anthropic. Anthropic says it could make donations to nonprofits or distribute money directly to specific populations, citing AI's effects on workers as one possible focus.

Including earlier founder and employee pledges, the announcement would bring combined commitments to roughly 20% of Anthropic's shares. That figure is broader than the new fund's initial stake. The company says equity held by the fund will not support lobbying or political giving.

Governance details and valuation milestones are due in the coming months. The announcement does not set out individual eligibility rules or a payment timetable.
