On October 7, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out its GPT-6 model family to conversational ChatGPT, pairing the models with a frontend feature called Intelligent UI. While the underlying GPT-6 models were introduced last month, this release marks their arrival in the standard consumer and team chat interfaces.
Alongside the chat release, OpenAI stated that its internal testing showed responses starting 44% sooner on web-search tasks compared to GPT-5.6 Instant. The company's metric reflects time until the initial response begins streaming, rather than total task completion speed or independent performance benchmarks.
Interactive Components Stream in Chat
Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT combine text and visuals with interactive components, including buttons, forms and comparison views, within a response.
In OpenAI’s demonstrations, ChatGPT produces comparisons, calculators, bill-splitting forms, interactive diagrams and small games. A visual explanation can let someone explore a concept inside the conversation.
The components stream progressively. ChatGPT can begin displaying an answer while the model continues thinking, then add detail as the response develops.

Availability, App Compatibility, and Effort Limitations
The feature set comes with specific software and tier requirements across different environments:
| Category | Supported Status | Key Conditions and Restrictions |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription Tiers | Rolling out globally | Started October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise; Free and Go scheduled for October 8. Enterprise access depends on workspace administrator controls. |
| Model Configuration | GPT-6 Sol | Powers Instant through Extra High for eligible paid accounts. |
| Reasoning Effort | Partial | The Pro thinking effort level remains powered by Astra and does not support Intelligent UI. |
| Desktop Platforms | Use the web with older apps | Older ChatGPT macOS and Windows desktop applications do not support Intelligent UI. |
| Mobile Apps | Supported updated apps | Update to the latest available release; plan and workspace access still apply. |
| Usage Allowances | No dedicated quota | Existing plan, model, and tool usage limits still apply. |
Subscribers should note the operational distinction between the paid Pro account tier and the Pro thinking effort setting. While Pro tier members have access to the release, setting the thinking effort to Pro runs the Astra model, which does not support Intelligent UI.
Existing Model Selections
The rollout does not retire existing model selections or alter developer-focused environments:
- Models in ChatGPT Work and Codex remain on their previously released versions; this rollout changes Chat.
- Explicit user selections for
GPT-5.6 Solremain active in the model selector. - Existing
Latestselections move to GPT-6 at the same effort setting.
