OpenAI announced on November 4 that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, the developer of Code Storage and several open-source tools already used in Codex. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals; the companies will operate independently until it closes.
For developers, the acquisition brings together tools for navigating, reviewing and storing code. Pierre’s Trees and Diffs libraries already power file browsing and change review in Codex. Its Highlights library provides syntax highlighting, while Code Storage lets applications store code and track its history using Git, the version-control system.
What Continues, and What Comes Later
OpenAI says Pierre’s open-source projects will stay open-source and that it will continue contributing to them. Customers will be able to keep using Code Storage after closing while its features are brought into Codex. The announcement does not give an integration timetable, new customer pricing or the deal’s financial terms.
The planned integration complements Pando, OpenAI’s separate internal source-control backend for engineers and agents, described earlier this week.
