Anthropic has renamed its Max 20x subscription to Claude Ultra and says existing subscribers move automatically without a price change. The plan costs $200 a month on the web. Verified Ultra accounts no longer have a five-hour usage limit, but weekly limits still apply.
Anthropic's updated articles place the Max and Ultra naming change at October 30. Its current help page describes Ultra as including ten times Pro's weekly usage across models, alongside a separate weekly limit for Anthropic's Fable model. The old 20x name and current weekly multiplier do not establish how many tokens a particular workload receives.
Verification Changes the Session Limit
Anthropic automatically verifies Ultra accounts using factors such as account and payment history. Until verification completes, an account retains a temporary five-hour limit. Phone verification at checkout is a separate step and does not remove that limit.
Users can check Settings > Usage: Anthropic says an account without a Current session bar is verified. It does not promise a fixed verification deadline or require a manual verification request.
The change lets verified subscribers spend their weekly allowance in longer stretches. It does not turn Ultra into unlimited usage. Anthropic retains the ability to impose other capacity and fair-access limits and does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
Plan Credits and Extra Usage Are Separate
The current comparison lists Max at $100 a month with five times Pro's usage in both five-hour and weekly windows. Ultra is $200 with ten times Pro's weekly usage and the verification-dependent removal of the session cap. The displayed prices exclude applicable taxes, and mobile subscription prices may differ.
Max and Ultra include $100 and $200 in monthly Claude Platform API credits respectively. Those credits are for building applications with the API. They do not pay for usage-credit overages in Claude, Claude Code or Claude Cowork.
Subscribers who enable usage credits can continue after an included limit by paying separately at standard API rates. That option uses a prepaid balance and spending controls; it is an additional charge beyond the subscription.
