OpenAI announced GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29 as an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users can access it in ChatGPT Work and Codex; developers can call it through the API as gpt-6.1-sol.
Standard API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Cached input is priced separately at $0.10 per million tokens. OpenAI compares the uncached input and output rates with GPT-6 Astra’s $10 and $50 rates, respectively, making those two prices one-fifth of Astra’s. The cached input rate uses a separate pricing category. API prices do not change ChatGPT subscription allowances.
OpenAI says an Ultrafast mode for Codex will arrive in the coming days and can generate tokens up to eight times faster. It is not currently available. The company notes that its evaluation conditions may differ from production ChatGPT, and that comparisons with competing models draw on public reports.
An addendum to OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra system card classifies Sol as Critical for cybersecurity and High for biological and chemical capabilities under the company’s Preparedness Framework. OpenAI says Sol uses the same safeguards as Astra; both the ratings and safeguards are the company’s disclosures.
