Anthropic announced on September 16 that Claude Cowork and the core chat experience are becoming one Claude conversation. The change is rolling out gradually over the coming weeks on web, desktop and mobile for paid Pro and Max users, with additional plans to follow.

The product shift moves Claude away from separate query and agent surfaces. Anthropic says the unified experience can route quick questions alongside larger tasks such as research, report writing, spreadsheet work and presentation drafting.

Docs, Slides and Design

Anthropic also introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides as beta tools on paid plans, while bringing Claude Design into conversations. The tools are designed to let users create and revise working files inside Claude:

  • Claude Docs: Creates editable text documents. Axios reported that Claude can draft sections, ask questions, comment on editorial choices and revise the document. Reuters reported export to Google Docs and Microsoft Word.
  • Claude Slides: Creates editable presentation decks that can be exported as PowerPoint files or PDFs, according to Reuters’ report on the launch.
  • Claude Design: Produces visual artifacts inline in a conversation.

Anthropic says existing context, custom skills, connectors, projects and reference files carry over to the unified experience. Users can edit outputs, share drafts through web links or download files.

Rollout Has Explicit Boundaries

The change is not an immediate, universal rollout. Anthropic’s help documentation says:

  • Pro and Max access is rolling out over the coming weeks across web, desktop and mobile.
  • Enterprise administrators control the beta tools, and organizations receive at least 30 days’ notice before interface changes apply.
  • Cloud background tasks can continue after a laptop is closed, but tasks that interact with local computer environments or local desktop files still require Claude Desktop to remain open.

For teams evaluating the new workflow, the important distinction is between a single front door and a single execution environment. Claude may present chat, document creation and agentic work in one conversation, while local automation and enterprise controls remain separately bounded.
